Mobile Web Browsing Made Easier
Quick.as launches a mobile (and iPhone) optimized version of its site. Quick.as directs users to other mobile optimized websites. Time savings searching the web using Quick.as are magnified on mobile devices.
Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) May 21, 2008 -- Quick.as (http://quick.as) has just released a mobile version of its site. On a computer, Quick.as saves time browsing the web through its Quick Search and Quick Links. Quick Search allows users to quickly select and search multiple web sites - quicker than doing a Google search or having to type in the site you want to visit and then doing a search. Quick Links are like bookmarks where users have quick access to the handful of sites that make up the majority of websites they visit.
While setting Quick.as as a start page can save considerable time surfing the web on a computer, the time savings are magnified when surfing on a mobile devices. This is because:
1. Pages often take longer to load. Reducing the number of page loads saves a lot of time.
2. It is harder to type on mobile devices thereby making slower to navigate to different sites by typing in web addresses.
3. Smaller screens mean it is difficult to access normal sites. Not all websites have mobile versions.
4. There is no standard way for accessing sites that do have mobile optimized versions. Some detect it is being viewed on a mobile device and make adjustments accordingly, while others you have various addresses (m.example.com, mobile.example.com, example.mobi, example.com/mobile, etc.).
Quick.as reduces the number of page loads, facilitates less typing, adjusts for smaller screens, and automatically takes users to mobile optimized websites.
There is a "general" mobile optimized version of Quick.as that takes advantage of the varying capabilities of different mobile phones. There is also an iPhone optimized version that utilizes some of the more advanced features of Apple iPhone's and iPod Touch's. To access the mobile version of the site, simply visit http://quick.as and the site will detect the device and adjust the site accordingly. Alternatively you can visit http://i.quick.as for the iPhone optimized version and http://m.quick.as for the general mobile optimized version.
Notes:
- In order to deliver mobile/iPhone optimized sites and search results Quick.as has compiled a database of mobile sites and substitutes the normal website for a mobile optimized version.
- Sites that have an iPhone and/or mobile optimized site are marked with a star when displayed on Quick.as.
- When doing a Google maps search on an iPhone, it will open up the Google Maps application. Likewise with a YouTube search.
- Not all mobile phones support JavaScript. Quick.as will still work without JavaScript, however the command drop-down and shortcut keys will not work.
- It is possible to add Quick.as to the start page where a Quick.as button is displayed.
