Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) June 16, 2008 -- The International Federation of Adipose Therapeutics and Science (IFATS) is excited to announce the launch of its new informational web site at http://www.IFATS.org.
IFATS is a non-profit organization created in 2002 dedicated to facilitating the development of new technology derived from and directed toward adipose tissue. IFATS is a leading source of information about adipose biology and related technology. IFATS identifies new technology and brings together scientists and industry for productive collaborations. Such collaborations will relate to adipose tissue, with far-reaching applications in obesity reduction products and services, fat-derived stromal and cell-based therapies, and fat-applied instrumentation devices which may be directly translated to therapeutic application.
The IFATS organization has grown to over 200 members over the past six years. It is the only international multi-disciplinary organization of its kind focused on adipose-derived stem cell therapies and research. The IFATS08 Conference will be held October 24-26, 2008 in Toulouse, France. This is the second time that the conference has been hosted outside the US, with the first conference held in Mallorca, Spain in 2003.
J. Peter Rubin, M.D., an assistant professor of surgery at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine is the current IFATS Chairman of the Board. He is also co-director of the University of Pittsburgh Adipose Stem Cell Center, a founding member of IFATS. Dr. Rubin is both a research scientist and clinical plastic surgeon who specializes in reconstructive breast and body surgery. He has been internationally recognized for innovative surgical procedures designed to help patients after obesity and massive weight loss. His research on adipose derived stem cells and their potential role in reconstructive surgery is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH). Dr. Rubin holds leadership positions in the national plastic surgery societies, has published numerous scientific articles, and edited three textbooks.
The new IFATS web site (www.IFATS.org) provides visitors with information on its mission, leadership, news and sponsorship opportunities, as well as registration information for the IFATS08 Conference being hosted in Toulouse, France from October 24-26, 2008.
