Qumranet Previews Solid ICE Multi-Site Hosted Desktop Virtualization

Fast, secure and graphically rich virtual desktop computing for large enterprises with branches worldwide.

Sunnyvale, Calif.; Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 17, 2008 -- Qumranet, a leading provider of virtual computing solutions and the commercial sponsor of KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine), today previewed its Solid ICE Multi-Site desktop virtualization solution, which will offer the benefits of centralized desktops to enterprises with globally dispersed users in branch offices and remote sites.

The preview was shown today at the BriForum in Chicago, a conference focused on virtualization technologies.

"The problem with current methods of remote desktop access is that they suffer from a poor user experience, including slow speeds and sub-standard graphics," said Benny Schnaider, CEO Qumranet. "Solid ICE Multi-Site offers end-users the computing experience they expect and need, including multi-media rich applications, VoIP, and video-conferencing, while providing IT managers the benefits of desktop centralization."

Solid ICE Multi-Site employs Qumranet's SPLICE technology, which enables an IT administrator to manage and maintain all the virtual desktops enterprise-wide from one central location. Customers can leverage the architectural advantage of virtualization and enable "remote presence". The virtual desktop location is optimized by SPLICE technology thereby enabling a superior end-user experience.

Qumranet will soon offer enterprise customers the opportunity to participate in an "Early Availability Program" for Solid ICE Multi-Site. Interested parties can go to www.qumranet.com/multi-site-registration/ to sign up.

About Solid ICE
Solid ICE is a high-performance and scalable desktop virtualization product. It provides all the benefits of centralized computing with the interactivity and rich user experience of desktop computing. With Solid ICE, the user's desktop runs in a KVM virtual machine on a server in the data center, and the user connects to it using a thin client (or a repurposed PC) via SPICE , Qumranet's remote rendering technology. SPICE is optimized for virtual desktop environments and provides users with a user-experience, indistinguishable from that of a physical PC. Solid ICE supports multiple monitors, bi-directional audio/video for video conference calling and VoIP, HD quality streaming video and USB support. Solid ICE has been purposefully built for desktops, and compared to other retrofitted server virtualization solutions in the market, offers a user experience indistinguishable from that of a physical PC, a 3-4x improvement in cost-performance, and greatly simplified management.
