Desert Road Publishing Announces Launch of 'You Ain't No Johnny Cash'

The Southwestern stage play by David Miguel Estrada will become available July 25

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 19, 2008 -- Desert Road Publishing is pleased to announce the July 25 launch of David Miguel Estrada's "You Ain't No Johnny Cash." To purchase or preview the play visit www.desertroadpublishing.com or www.davidmiguelestrada.com.

"You Ain't No Johnny Cash" is a play about Cody Luther, an aging country singer who cut short his career in the 1980s and moved to Mexico after his wife cheated on him with Willie Nelson. Luther moves back to his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, where he reconnects with his ex-wife, Diana May, eventually rekindling the romance they once had. After a brawl over a jukebox song, Cody is forced to attend court-appointed therapy sessions. Does he actually suffer from clinical depression or is he just a lonely old country singer?

Show Business Weekly hails Estrada as a "maverick writer-actor-director." NewYorkCool.com describes him as "multi-talented." "Very good" writes the Albuquerque Journal while the Austin-American Statesman calls Estrada's work "...engaging throughout."

The playwright has had seven New York productions of his plays including his solo piece "Reflections," which was performed at Lincoln Center. His latest stage production, "God, Man, & Stan" premiered in Los Angeles and will also be published later this year.

Estrada explains, "The main character, Cody Luther, is an old-school country singer in the vein of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, or Merle Haggard. The only difference is that he drops off the scene. What resonated with me about this story was the idea of a popular country singer bowing out at the very peak of his career."
