Elizabeth Nelson Announces the Publication of Brain Matters

Elizabeth Nelson's new book Brain Matters covers twenty years of first-hand experience with suicide, severe depression and bipolar disorder. The book includes information about the seven types of illnesses, the history of psychiatry, psychotherapy, substance abuse, bipolar children, depression and women, depression and work, recovery and getting help.

Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) July 23, 2008 -- Elizabeth Nelson has just published her book called "Brain Matters". The book contains her personal experiences of living with severe depression and bipolar disorder.

Up to 15% of people with bipolar disorder commit suicide. Every two hours a young adult (15 to 24) commits suicide. Fifty percent of all bipolar patients are substance abusers. It is possible that Heath Ledger, the actor, had bipolar disorder.

Elizabeth Nelson's story of enduring depression and mood swings for twenty years is riveting and heart-breaking. This book contains her personal story of battling two horrible illnesses.

  • Have you ever felt so depressed you couldn't get out of bed for days?
  • Have you ever felt so anxious that you couldn't work?
  • Have you ever felt like screaming and yelling and throwing furniture?
  • Have you ever been so manic you did things you don't want to admit to?
  • Have you been so depressed you wanted to end it by suicide?
If you answer "yes" to any of the above questions then you may have severe depression or bipolar disorder.

Elizabeth Nelson has been hospitalized eight times and has had electroshock treatments several times. She knows what it feels like to be in pain with severe depression. Although she has never attempted suicide she has thought about it many times. The book contains personal notes from forty journals Elizabeth kept for over twenty years. Elizabeth Nelson relates her story about living with these horrible illnesses to others that are experiencing the same thing. It is her hope that the book will help others with depression and bipolar disorder and will have them seek out help.

This is a compelling personal journey of Nelson's story as she struggles through manic and depressive episodes and finds recovery. This book is for individuals and families who are impacted by bipolar disorder that they may find understanding and hope through Nelson's experiences and the up-to-date research that she provides.
