The TXMPA will lobby state lawmakers for legislation to expand financial incentives to help attract more projects to Texas boost the state's moving image industry.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 1, 2008 -- If you are going to honor and "roast" your friends' professional work - movie clips and trailers, commercials and TV programs, corporate and music videos - then, what better place than the Studio Movie Grill at Royal Lane and Central Expressway (IH-75).

The tributes, fused with humorous, tongue-in-cheek self-deprecation, start at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 16, 2008. The Dallas Producers Association (DPA) presents its fourth annual showcase of Dallas' great and small in video and film production," officially titled "Revenge of It Came From Dallas! - The Show Goes 4th!" The general public is invited to participate in the fun.

There is no charge for admission, however, since this is a fundraising event, a $10 donation is suggested. For advance reservations and information on the event, go to www.itcamefromdallas.com. To become an event sponsor, please contact Chad Rosga at 214-927-1940.

The DPA is the 200+ member association representing moving-image producers and their vendors in North Texas, an industry making an estimated $128 million annual economic impact on the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex*. The creative trade group first presented its rollicking round-up of somewhat dubious distinction in 2005.

Some entries are up for honor and others are up for good-natured mocking, but all were done in the Dallas area. Past ICFD audiences were treated to excerpts from such timeless classics as "Rock Baby: Rock It," "Giant Gila Monsters," "Attack of the Killer Shrews," "Mars Needs Women" and "The Amazing Transparent Man," plus others too numerous to list.

Even the local industry's hallowed archives are not off limits. The shows producers have added to the collective send-up "Prison," a commercial for Alka Seltzer® featuring George Raft that was filmed at Fair Park in Dallas in 1969. Highlights in preceding years also have included early TV spots for 7-Eleven® convenience stores, Frito-Lay® snack foods and Dr Pepper® soft drinks.

This year's "It Came From Dallas!" show will be emceed by film historian Gordon K. Smith and veteran improv comedian Bob Coonrod of "4 Out of 5 Doctors" and "Lone Star Comedy" fame. This dynamic duo of knowledgeable insiders is expected to delight the audience with movie banter and rare tidbits of trivia regarding behind-the-scenes information about the evening's fare.

To further wow the audience of moving image enthusiasts and insiders, there is a special 3D presentation.

The night's program also will include presentation of the annual DPA Film Pioneer Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to advancing the region's moving image industry. This year's recipients will be Rod Keitz and Larry Herndon of the legendary Keitz and Herndon Studios. Their production company was one of the early pioneers in animation utilized in TV commercial advertising. Among their deep body of work, "JOT," a highly popular TV series produced in the 1960s, and a theatrical ad for Dr Pepper® that appeared in movie theaters as well as drive-in movies.

TXMPA Benefits from Event... DPA 30th Anniversary Upcoming

The DPA has designated a portion of the proceeds from this year's event to the ongoing efforts of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA) to make the State of Texas' incentive program for filmmakers more competitive. Hundreds of millions of dollars in work and jobs have gone to Louisiana, New Mexico and Michigan, which provide more attractive incentives.

The TXMPA - initiated by the DPA - successfully helped lobby for legislation establishing financial incentives which initially helped expand the state's moving image industry. The statewide organization has regional chapters covering virtually every area where film, video and video-gaming production takes place (http://www.txmpa.org/).

In June, DPA board member Don Stokes, president of Post Asylum in Dallas, was elected president of the Alliance. He recently stated: "From one corner of Texas to the other, we're marshalling our members and our message to convince legislators that we need their support to rebuild a robust moving-image industry in Texas."

"We want to have a large turnout for this event, not only from industry members and vendors, but by folks from the community at-large," said DPA co-founder Bob Dauber, Chairperson and Executive Producer for "...It came from Dallas!...."

"It's not only a fun evening filled with some really outrageous film moments, but it also serves a greater purpose: Growing business in Dallas, North Texas and in the State of Texas overall," emphasized Dauber, Creative Consultant/Producer at "Bob's (pretty good) Creative" in Dallas.

DPA President Clayton Coblentz, a producer with Fusion Productions, Irving, added, "There is nothing like 'It Came From Dallas'. Where else can you honor the legacy of our great production community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by laughing at the past? It is truly a one-of-a-kind event."

The Dallas Producers Association also will commemorate its 30-year anniversary with a major, celebratory event on Dec. 2nd. Details will be forthcoming on the DPA website www.dallasproducers.org and list-serve. The DPA 30th Anniversary is proudly sponsored by The Studios at Las Colinas managed by Muller Entertainment."
