Wildly-Popular First Wives World Blog By Mimi Schmir Sold To Amy Einhorn Books/Putnam As Hardcover Book.

Innovative Internet and entertainment powerhouse, First Wives World, extends its Midas touch with the announcement that its exclusive online serial blog "Hot Flashes" has been picked up by Amy Einhorn Books/Putnam as a hardcover novel. First Wives World has been using the internet as a breeding ground for cutting-edge entertainment and commercial properties that can migrate to the real world. The First Wives World brand now encompasses, the first site targeting the 30 million divorced women in the U.S.; First Wives Club, The Musical, the Broadway-bound adaptation of the popular movie; the Debbie Does Divorce online talk show; and numerous original online and offline entertainment features and events.

Launched exclusively on in Fall 2007, "Hot Flashes" follows the irresistible peri-menopausal misadventures of lead-character Esme. The fictional blog is the creation of veteran TV writer/producer Mimi Schmir (Grey's Anatomy, Felicity, Party of Five). Amy Einhorn Books/Putnam purchased the world rights for the hardcover from Erin Malone at William Morris and will publish the untitled debut novel in 2009.

Following its launch, "Hot Flashes" quickly built an enthusiastic following and became a hot Hollywood property. It even inspired live performances of the blog in New York and Los Angeles that featured readings by actresses such as Amy Brenneman (Private Practice), Kim Raver (Lipstick Jungle) and Dana Delaney (Desperate Housewives). The novel, BRIDGET JONES 15 years later, follows the rebirth of a feisty, recently divorced from her philandering husband, Esme as she works to reclaim her life as a newly-single and dating (beginning with Hot Birthday Party Dad), 40-something mother of two rambunctious boys (Roo and Mr. Handsome), while juggling a start-up catering business with BFF Annabelle and a blossoming career as a comic book writer.

Hot Flashes creator, Mimi Schmir notes, "'Hot Flashes' was conceived as a funny, irreverent, compassionate look at mid-life transformation. I wanted to explore the lives of people who are determined to face the second half of their lives with courage, style, and humor no matter what challenges come their way. It seems particularly fitting that the internet, a place where taking leaps of faith is embraced as normal, is where 'Hot Flashes' first found a home."

Hot Flashes was brought to First Wives World by Ann Blanchard, Executive Entertainment Consultant to First Wives World Productions and manager/producer at Mosaic Entertainment. According to Blanchard, "Hot Flashes" is an idea destined for digital. Having packaged network television shows for years, I had a sense that this wildly honest, original concept was best served by an unfettered presentation online."

Danielle Montalbano, Head of First Wives World Productions, notes that the success of "Hot Flashes" is a sign that the web will play a major role in cultivating commercial projects that are fresh, edgy and smart. "The web today is a creative incubator for new entertainment properties
that may initially be seen as too hot or controversial for mainstream entertainment outlets such as movies, TV or publishing. It gives them a chance to find an audience, and to show that they are viable commercial properties in a way that wasn't available before. We are very excited about the success of Hot Flashes and Mimi Schmir. We knew it was a hit the minute it was pitched to us."
