With the belt tightening that comes with a recession many families will be wanting to ensure they save money wherever they can, but if you're planning on heading on a skiing holiday this winter you need to be sure you get the right travel insurance, Insuremore have warned. The cheap travel insurance company know all about the small print that consumers can fall foul of, and know that high risk activity policies like skiing insurance are particularly specific.

"Most consumers will realise that getting their travel insurance from their holiday provider is rarely the cheapest, but there are many pitfalls holidaymakers can be tripped up by if not fully prepped," said Patrick Chong, the Managing Director of Insuremore. "First of all, standard cheap travel insurance rarely covers risk activities like skiing, so make sure you're clear about what you need cover against when you're buying- it's too late when you get around to making a claim. Secondly, cheap ski travel insurance often cuts corners, and you may find that not everything you need is covered - for example you might find that your equipment won't be protected against loss or damage. Read the policy carefully and make sure all eventualities are covered - and if they're not, don't be afraid to ask for it to be included or to shop around for a better deal," he added.

The company can afford to be this candid because their cheap ski travel insurance stacks up nicely against some of its rivals. Despite generously protecting equipment and covering costs if you're prevented from skiing for more than 48 hours, their entry level travel insurance undercut the costs of Marks and Spencer, Columbus Direct and the Post Office at just £13.78 for a single trip, and Mr Chong sees this as concrete evidence that cheap travel insurance doesn't always mean flaky.

"Our ski travel insurance is cheap, but very cheerful," he said. "If you want extra protection, we offer advanced cover which also protects against piste closure in the event of an avalanche and reimburses travel costs if said avalanche delays your trip home. It really is a complete package at a credit crunch friendly price!"

In the current economic climate and with Christmas looming large, families will be looking to save money wherever they can. If Insuremore is anything to go by, cheap travel insurance needn't mean bad, but whoever you go with be sure to read the small print and ensure you're satisfied before you sign the dotted line!
