BBCS Primary 5.0 Application Will Support HemCon's Automated Blood Establishment Computer System

It will be a great opportunity to demonstrate the flexibility of the BBCS Primary Application while meeting the needs and requirements of a new diverse part of the industry.

HemCon Medical Technologies Inc. has selected the BBCS Primary 5.0 Application, from Blood Bank Computer Systems Inc., to support their automated Blood Establishment Computer System (B.E.C.S) needs while they await FDA approval for a new, unique lyophilized plasma-based resuscitation program.

"The BBCS Primary Application was the obvious choice for this project", states Dr. Clint Pepper, VP Product and Process Development of HemCon Medical Technologies. "The BBCS Primary Application has the flexibility to adapt to our unique information needs while still maintaining the integrity of a FDA 510(k) approved product."

In May 2008, the U.S. Army selected HemCon Medical Technologies Inc. as the sole source to develop, test and secure FDA approval for a lyophilized (freeze-dried), human plasma (LHP) product and delivery system. The $15.4 million, multi-year cooperative agreement will support the research and development of the new process. The project is expected to be complete in 2010.

Blood Bank Computer Systems was awarded FDA 510(k) clearance for their BBCS Primary Application in December 2004. The Primary Application is a robust system that has been acclaimed as a powerful enterprise wide solution for the blood banking and transfusion industry.

"We are excited with the opportunity to be a part of this innovative project that will support the men and women of the Armed Forces with safe, life-saving plasma" adds Beth Simon, President/CEO of Blood Bank Computer Systems Inc. "It will be a great opportunity to demonstrate the flexibility of the BBCS Primary Application while meeting the needs and requirements of a new diverse part of the industry."
