The publishers of Duelz.com have announced their first annual "Duel of the Year", which focuses on conflicts and contests between two people or entities.

The 2008 Duel of the Year is Muntader al-Zaidi vs. George Bush.

Muntader al-Zaidi is the journalist that threw his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush. Bush was attending a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Malik when al-Zaidi took off both his shoes and hurled them at Bush.

While the obvious Duel of 2008 for many was the presidential election featuring Barrack Obama vs. John McCain, the publishers of Duelz.com say Muntader al-Zaidi vs. George Bush symbolized why Obama won.

Duelz.com believes this election was more about the bad feelings towards Bush than the specific issues or personalities of the 2008 presidential election, and al-Zaidi expressed this feelings for many. Plus, al-Zaidi accurate shoe-throwing and Bush's quick reflexes dodging the shoes, had all the elements needed for a great physical duel.

Duelz.com also named the following:

Sports Duel of 2008: New York Giants vs. New England Patriots Super Bowl 2008
The Pats finish the regular season undefeated and face Peyton's little brother. A last minute scramble and a helmet-pressing catch later, and Eli made a name all for himself.

Entertainment Duel of 2008: Scripted TV vs. Unscripted TV
Is it the end for TV shows that use scripts and actually have plots?

Business Duel of 2008: Wall Street Bailout vs.The People of the US
At it's essence, the debate is socialism vs. capitalism, and should the two be mixed? Discussing the bailout, and socialism in the U.S., will continue for years.
