Camas, WA (PRWEB) January 5, 2009
Global Pathogen Solutions Inc., an innovator in safety tools for emergency responders and healthcare professionals, has been named one of the top 20 new products for 2008 by EMS Magazine.
Global Pathogen Solutions'™ flagship product, the D.A.R.T. Pro™ (Dart Acquiring and Removal Tool), allows first responders to safely acquire, remove and store contaminated stun-gun darts from subjects who have been shot. A basic fear of first-responders who handle stun-gun darts is that they will inadvertently become stuck and become infected with the bloodborne pathogens of the person shot.
Mike Smith of EMS Magazine was enthusiastic about the new product, saying, "If anyone can give me one good reason why any rig responding to a 'patient tased' would do so without a D.A.R.T. (Pro), I'd love to hear it. I don't believe that reason exists."
"This device (D.A.R.T. Pro) reeks of common sense and practicality," Smith said.
D.A.R.T. Pro was recognized by the magazine as one of the top 20 new products for 2008. President Carson Linker accepted the award at the Texas EMS Conference November 24 in Fort Worth. EMS Magazine, the largest industry publication in the emergency medical services field, will feature the winning products in its January 2009 issue.
"Global Pathogen Solutions is excited to bring greater awareness to the public about the concern with bloodborne pathogen transmission," Linker said. "The recognition from EMS Magazine and this prestigious award sends a clear message that the industry is committed to making first-responders' safety a priority."
The life-threatening pathogens potentially found on stun-gun darts removed from subdued subjects are likely to include HIV, AIDS and various strains of hepatitis.
The current recommended method for removing stun-gun darts is either by hand or with a pair of pliers. Once darts are removed they are placed in a secondary container which could be no more than a plastic bag. The D.A.R.T. Pro eliminates the need to handle the darts or come in contact with the blood of a subdued subject. The device safely acquires and removes contaminated stun-gun darts in a clear, durable sharps/evidence container. Once the contaminated darts have been retracted into the X-TRACTOR Tip, the red locking cap is pressed over the end of the X-TRACTOR and securely locked in place. The container can then be safely handled, labeled and placed into evidence.
