Couple Takes Family Business Into the Internet Age
Long running local business, Eastside Exterminators, has recently launched a website and blog to detail the company's services. The site comes at a time when people are becoming more reliant on the internet and seeks to modernize this local fixture.
Kenmore, WA (PRWEB) January 4, 2009 -- Since 1969, Eastside Exterminators have been a fixture in Western Washington, serving the Seattle metro area and the surrounding suburbs. Like many successful businesses, Eastside Exterminators was founded by a local man, Ralph Townsend, who then sold it to his daughter and her husband and kept the business in the family.
"We saw the opportunity to run and continue and grow a successful, established business," stated Alex Altizer. "We wanted to represent his legacy in a positive, continued tone."
Altizer and his wife, DeAnna, took over the business nearly nine years ago and oversaw its online debut with www.EastsideExterminators.com. Through this avenue, the couple has been able to reach out to residents who are looking for a dependent, localized company. "Within our company, our focus is primarily residential," said Altizer. "We have that focus because it allows for a one-on-one relationship with the homeowner. We care, which is a huge difference to how we view ourselves, as opposed to national companies."
In addition to taking their business to the internet, the Altizers have also launched a sister blog, www.EastsideExterminators.net. "I want to educate consumers about our local problems," explained Altizer. "When someone goes online and types 'carpenter ants,' they may get something from here or New York or Florida, and it may be a different species with three solutions and three methods, two, of which, may not work."
Ever the forward thinkers, Eastside Exterminators are also shifting their practices to reflect eco-friendly habits. "We're implementing a complete paperless system and trying to become more internet-based where customers can do all their scheduling over the internet, if they choose," said Altizer. "For our fleet of vehicles, we are slowly implementing hybrid and electric-gas powered vehicles."
As EastsideExterminators.com has its 40 year mark looming in the foreseeable future, Altizer is realistic about what the overall goal of his family's company is: "I want to eliminate pests from the house, but realistically, I cannot eliminate them from the environment."
