New York, NY (PRWEB) January 8, 2009
Newly opened New York City Chelsea Gallery Art Next Gallery is proud to present an exhibit featuring eleven outstanding Chinese artists, Da Xiang, Guo Yan, He Diqiu, He Weiming, Lu Xiaochuan, Li Xinmo, Su Shangzhou, Xue Junning, Yang Jian, Zheng Lianjie and Zhou Peng. The new series, Chinese Sick Men, is curated by art critic and Professor Duan Jun of Beijing. The opening reception will be held at the gallery on Jan. 15, 2009 from 6 to 10 pm. The Chinese Sick Men Series will exhibit from Jan 7 through Feb. 28.
The Chinese Sick Men Series strays from the mainstream Chinese arts. The series presents eleven talented Chinese artists trying to reveal their concept of the sickness and the insanity of Chinese society and its people. The series does not spotlight the same talents as the international art markets of recent years. The effort is to focus on new artistic forces embodied by these emerging artists, whose energy and vitality shine. The series of Chinese Sick Men is to offer a complete picture of the Chinese contemporary art landscape.
Highlights include the exhibitions' signature pieces Guo Yan's Floating; He Diqiu's Dream Walking Syndrome Type A and gifted Da Xiang's cynical realism piece Motorola in China. Chinese Sick Men Series addresses the most profound social issues and attempts to demonstrate the role of the Chinese contemporary avant-garde. Mr. Zheng Lianjie, a well established artist based in New York City, is addressing the issue of human rights in China through his collected works in the series.
A new catalog of Chinese Sick Men Series - forwarded by Duan Jun and David Rong -- is published by Art Next Gallery. To purchase the catalog, please contact the gallery at (212) 206-1668 from 10 am to 6 pm (Tuesdays through Saturdays).
