The Keating Hotel Announces Sneak-Peak Taste of New MerK Restaurant at San Diego Restaurant Week

Downtown San Diego's Keating Hotel premieres the new MerK Restaurant for San Diego's Restaurant Week. Opening doors Sunday, January 11th, the MerK Bistro Italiano will serve rustic Italian cuisine with a California twist.

The much anticipated MerK Restaurant opens doors January 11th for San Diego's Restaurant Week. As the final instillation to the Keating Hotel, the MerK Bistro Italiano radiates a sleek sophistication while remaining a fun, affordable environment for San Diego locals and visitors alike.

Set within the historic Mercantile building, the MerK Restaurant is located at 820 5th Avenue, adjacent to its parent company, the Keating Hotel and the landmark Croce's Restaurant. Showcasing the same inspired Pininfarina décor, the two-story restaurant features outside patio dining, along with plush inside booths and elegant table seating.

Serving up a variety of rustic Italian dishes infused with a cool, California twist, the MerK menu will showcase its finest appetizers, entrée's and decadent deserts to be sampled during San Diego's famed Restaurant Week. From starters such as the shrimp and lobster bisque or personal margarita pizza, to the MerK's signature linguine dish mixed table side and served out of a traditional Romano cheese wheel.

Chef Brian Rutherford

Local San Diegan, Brian Rutherford, heads the MerK kitchen as Sous Chef and thirty year veteran in the culinary trade. Having gained training at the Culinary Institute of America, Rutherford has perfected his skills within numerous prestigious California kitchens including working as Sous Chef for the esteemed US Grant Hotel. Before moving on to the Keating Hotel and MerK Restaurant, Rutherford designed and operated his own concept Italian deli and catering service. Putting his acclaimed skills to work, Rutherford has exclusively created the MerK Restaurant's diverse Italian menu. Ensuring the utmost in quality, all of the MerK Restaurant's produce and foods will be locally bought and grown.
