Dogeared, a trendsetting brand that creates handcrafted jewels and gifts in Los Angeles, will preview their latest line at the NY ENK Accessorie Circuit & Intermezzo Show, Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, LA Market, NY International Gift Fair, and Project Las Vegas.

Dogeared founder and designer Marcia Maizel-Clarke leads an energetic design team that looked forward to emerging trends and back to Dogeared favorites for much of their inspiration this season, while always paying attention to the environmental impact and hitting targeted price points. New colors, textures, finishes, packaging, and messaging were all elements used to create pieces and collections that were fashion-forward yet timeless, had high visual impact at a variety of price points, and were produced with ecological sensitivity.

The team started the design process by examining Dogeared's collections over the years and looking at what worked and why. "We are in a're-everything' mode right now," explains Maizel-Clarke. "How do our customers take what they have, and make it look new and fresh? We are asking ourselves the same thing. New graphics, color, re-purposed materials, new outlooks on our favorites. Dogeared's very first line included fabric chokers and they have now re-emerged in lace with gold dipped, hand-cast charms. They look very new, on-trend, and they are a great way to get the lace that is so hot on all the runways right now."

Mixed metals are a big fashion story for 2009, which Dogeared is telling through their Daily Wear collection. Warm rose gold and an intense charcoal sterling silver along with new textures and sizes have added depth to the collection of bangles and hoop earrings. Add rose or charcoal metals to your current silver and gold and you immediately have a fresh, modern take on 2009.

Building on the texture trend, Wish Big, Precious Medals, and Jewel Box necklaces now come on leather straps and lace as well as chains. This creates an added interest of mixed textures while also offering the affordable price points which are so important in the current retail environment.

Dogeared continues to respond to the marketplace's demands for eco-friendly, functional, and fabulous products by expanding their organic cotton collection, which has grown into a significant category for the company. New bags, new sizes and new products, all with more of the great messages Dogeared is famous for, including "Real Men Recycle," "Fearless," and "Karma Nutrition Facts," have been added to the eco-friendly collection. Tiny Totes (totally adorable and perfect for lunch), an Undercover Zip Travel Bag (separates cleans and dirties when travelling), a Sole Traveler drawstring shoe sack (Happy Shoes, Happy Feet), and the scene-stealing, show-stopping organic cotton and repurposed leather Hipster (with the convenience of a fanny pack, but totally cool…how did we ever live without this?)

Dogeared's jewels are packaged on printed cards that communicate the unique attitudes and messages that resonate so strongly with consumers. "We founded Dogeared on the power of words, wishes, and dreams, and this is always the starting point as we develop our new lines," explains Maizel-Clarke. Some of these words have evolved into best-selling lines, including Peace, Karma, and the Pearls of… collection.     Other words found a home in the Variety Collection, now expanded to include themed categories. These include Luck, One for You… One for Me…, Three Wishes, Feelin'Good, Explore, Keep it Balanced, Love Stuck, and Peace, Love and Understanding. Within these categories are new designs and concepts, including Fearless, One in a Million, Carpe Diem, Love Struck, Infinite Love, and Happily Ever After.

"Our customers respond to our words, and our cards give them a voice," continues Maizel-Clarke. "Sometimes we express a humorous sentiment through our Attitude line, such as our new Oh my gosh, I have a Teenager!, sometimes we take on weightier issues, such as communicating loss, done this season with Infinity, and sometimes we act as a touchstone as with our new Fearless, Coexist, and Miracles do Happen pieces."

As Dogeared expands their collections and catalog, they continue to decrease their environmental footprint. The catalog is printed on mixed sources and boxes made with recycled paper have been redesigned to use less material. The amount of recycled metals used to make the jewelry (currently more than 50% of castings are made from recycled silver) is increasing and working with suppliers and casters that share their environmental commitment is a priority. Most importantly, the company continues to make all their jewels and gifts in their Southern California studios. The ongoing commitment to using only USA-sourced materials and doing 100% of the production here is non-negotiable and has always been a core Dogeared value.
