Preliminary Results from Ergotron Survey Show Average Gain of 25% When Integrating Additional PC Display

Nearly three-quarters (71 percent) of corporate computer users reported productivity gains of 20 percent or more when adopting a multi-display workstation, according to the preliminary results of a 2008 survey performed by Ergotron, Inc., the innovation leader in computer mounting and mobility products. The 200 plus North American executives and corporate staff surveyed, from Fortune 500 companies and small businesses, were participating in Ergotron's Dare2Dual Program, and claimed productivity gains for computer users utilizing dual displays that averaged 25%.

Ergotron's results are in line with a 2003 University of Utah monitor study sponsored by ATI Technologies, Inc. and NEC/Mitsubishi, which proved an average productivity increase of 20 to 30% when computer users employed two displays versus one.

"We knew the productivity benefit was significant in the University of Utah study, now we're pleased to put a more concrete number to the gain employees can earn from switching to a dual-display in their workspace," said Joel Hazzard, CEO of Ergotron. "It's now possible to document the payback and productivity gains customers enjoy, sometimes within a matter of days. This kind of dual-display payback should resonate throughout a corporate entity," adds Hazzard, "from the individual user, to IT, and ultimately to the executive who writes the checks on technology investments. When coupled with the wellness promoting benefits of an Ergotron stand, the comfort quotient adds even more productivity to a dual display workspace."

Ergotron's Dare2Dual survey participants installed an additional display on one of Ergotron's new multi-display desk stands and were asked to monitor their results over a period of 30 plus days, gauging task completion efficiency, reduction of errors, and overall comfort and productivity gains.

The two stands highlighted included the Neo-Flex™ Combo Lift stand, which combines the user's notebook and an LCD on one stand, and the Neo-Flex Dual LCD Lift Stand, which mounts two LCDs side-by-side for perfect alignment and height adjustment. Users were encouraged to calculate ROI investment payback on additional displays via Ergotron's Payback Calculator (http://payback.ergotron.com).

Some of the comments from Ergotron's Dare2Dual survey participants included "the monitors were easy to position," "there was less clutter on the desk," and "easy on the neck and back." Other users reported, "the increased visibility helps me respond to IT issues faster" and "the important part for me and the ability to see documents/windows side by side instead of glancing to the left and right of my desk made a huge difference!"

The Dare2Dual survey took a subjective view of dual-display computing, asking users to take a qualitative look at their personal experience as computer users. Fully 75% of those respondents were more satisfied with their computing experience when working on dual-displays.
