2009 Grand National Fever Begins
Excitement grows as Cheltenham winner Denman is pointed at the 2009 Grand National.
Liverpool, Aintree (PRWEB) January 12, 2009 -- Despite starting the year in the midst of a worrying economic climate, horseracing fans are staying positive as more information regarding the potential runners for the 2009 John Smith's Grand National is released.
The announcement that Denman is being considered for the National sent the bookmakers into a tailspin with ante-post odds being slashed from a reasonable 16-1 to 7-1 at both Paddy Power and William Hill.
"Such dramatic cuts in odds, so far in advance of race day, are unprecedented," says Simone Wright of http://www.grand-national.me.uk. "When you consider that the preliminary list of runners hasn't even been released and that Denman is the most likely to be top-weighted on the day, if he runs, then odds of 7-1 over four months in advance are laughable".
Another boost for the 2009 John Smith's Grand National came in the form of an announcement, from Aintree Racecourse, that the prize money on offer will be worth a record £900,000, an increase of £100,000 on the 2008 value.
"The John Smith's Grand National is one of the most grueling and difficult steeplechases in the world and attracts a huge number of viewers from all over the world," says Simone Wright. "As such, the trainers, jockeys and owners who all work incredibly hard to make the race what it is, should be rewarded for it. Maybe next year we'll even see the prize money go to a £1,000,000".
