Richmond, Virginia (PRWEB) January 15, 2009
Imagine delivering an acceptance speech via text message. To start, you couldn't thank too many people in only 140 characters, but that's what Madison+Main President and Chief Idea Officer Dave Saunders plans to do February 11th in New York City at the Shorty Awards. Saunders is one of five finalists in the Advertising Category for the international award given to the best producers of short content on Twitter.
Twitter is a real-time short messaging network. With over 4.5 million users, it has become the Internet's fastest growing social media network. The service allows users, or "Tweeters," to follow and post anything from breaking news to mundane updates about their lives in 140 characters or less via web, text message or RSS feed. Tweeters who have the most followers on the site are elevated to the highest level of regard in online circles: the renowned "Twitterati."
After only three months of posts on Twitter, Saunders has generated a rapidly growing community of more than 4,500 followers, placing him within the top 650 Twitter users in the world and making him the number one Tweeter in Richmond, Virginia. The Shorty Awards narrowed down the nominations from more than 4.5 million users in over 1,500 categories to 131 finalists in 26 categories covering a wide variety of disciplines. The awards have recently been featured by The New York Times, TechCrunch, BBC, VentureBeat, MediaBistro and Mashable.com. The winners of each category will pocket $1,000, but more importantly, they'll cement their place in the ever-growing world of Twitter.
