For many engaged couples, the devastating effects of a turbulent economy may mean putting off wedding plans in 2009. The stress and expense of finding a location, choosing the décor, hiring the officiate, holding the rehearsal dinner and ensuring reasonable lodging and entertainment for out of town guests has now become intensified by shrinking budgets.

The City of Kirkland and the consortium of local businesses at, is announcing to engaged couples, and those already married wanting to renew their vows, that the perfect wedding in Kirkland can be had for only three hundred and fifty dollars ($350), on one of the most romantic days of the year; Valentine's Day. Now in its fourth year due to increasing demand for affordable wedding options, is again offering a special "Tie the Knot on Valentine's Day" package on February 14th.

The Valentine's Day package provides an opportunity for couples, and up to thirty of their closest friends, to say "I do" at Kirkland's historic Heritage Hall with preset floral arrangements, decorations, recorded "wedding" music, and a retired District Judge as officiate. Also included is an on-site professional wedding coordinator to assist couples in ensuring the event is a memorable one. For additional fees, couples can request live music, purchase a keepsake bouquet and boutonniere, and hire a photographer for some basic wedding photos.

What makes the Kirkland's "Tie the Knot on Valentine's Day" package truly unique is that the ceremonies will be held each hour for 24 hours starting as early as one minute after midnight or as late as 11:00 p.m. on Valentine's Day, which is Saturday this year. With only twenty four slots available, couples are urged to send in their registration forms, available at as soon as possible with the deadline of February 1st quickly approaching. Couples must also obtain their marriage licenses from any Washington State county and provide them to no later than February 4, 2009.

Last year, Lena and Nick Adami took advantage of the Valentine's Day special when they discovered in September 2007 that their original plans for a small, intimate wedding on the beach in California the following July was derailed and they were scrambling for an alternate plan. "Planning a wedding was not something I was excited about doing. We just wanted to get married, and then have a big party afterward," says Lena Adami. "Our wedding in Kirkland was exactly the intimate affair we wanted, and we didn't have to worry about a single thing!"

When it comes to couples like the Adami's that want to celebrate before or after the Valentine's Day ceremony, Kirkland is ripe with opportunities. Sur La Table is holding a "Celebrating Love" cooking class for couples featuring natural aphrodisiacs, indulgent flavors and a special dinner. The Kirkland Performance Center is hosting their traditional Valentine's Day Show "Love is a Laugh," and Laughs Comedy Spot, Kirkland's own comedy club, will feature a "Valentine's Dinner and a Show" featuring comedian Ryan Hamilton.
