Orlando Based Jackson Hewitt Staff Earns Hispanic Service Certification

Jackson Hewitt Tax Preparers complete intensive curriculum and testing to become highly qualified to serve foreign born Hispanics.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) January 17, 2009 -- Staff members from ten Jackson Hewitt Tax Service locations in Orlando Florida have been awarded Hispanic Services Certification. The prestigious designation is approved by the IRS, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy and Certified Board of Financial Planners for CPE credit. The curriculum consists of a rigorous thirty hour curriculum with twenty exams in topics including Hispanic Culture, Tax Preparation for the Foreign born, Working with Interpreters and ITIN Applications.

Tax preparation offices have been struggling to reach and serve the foreign born Hispanic since the unprecented population growth began. However, the Hispanic consumer with less than five years in the United States has both a language and educational barrier when it comes to obtaining assistance with tax preparation in the United States. In addition, tax preparers traditionally receive training in serving the mainstream American customer who has different needs than those of a foreign born consumer. As a result, many tax offices are woefully unprepared to effectively handle issues that are common for Hispanic consumers such as Dependents in Latin America, Foreign Identification and ITINS.

As a result, over ten million Hispanics have not filed taxes in spite of being owed refunds or needing documentation for home buying or immigration. Bill Forness, CPA and owner of the Orlando based Jackson Hewitt offices knew that a different approach was in order. While the classes were a significant time commitment on the part of his staff, Forness understood that more had to be done than simply advertise in Spanish. Roxanne Rose, General Manager for the Orlando offices emphasized that "Becoming certified is a tangible sign of how serious we are about setting high standards for serving the Hispanic customer".

The Hispanic Services Certification was offered to Jackson Hewitt franchisees through the Jackson Hewitt corporate office (www.jacksonhewitt.com) and designed by Blaire Borthayre. Borthayre, author of Marketing Tax Preparation Services to the Hispanic Community is the leading expert in Hispanic tax preparation. She appeared most recently on NBC Nightly News, ABC News and National Public Radio. (www.Hispanicmarketingresources.com)

"I am delighted to award certification to the Orlando offices and can personally speak to their strong desire to be educators and advocates for the Hispanic tax client. I look forward to seeing the impact of this training for the Hispanic customers in Central Florida."
