Martin Bolduc taught hundreds of people how to keep their bodies fit and healthy as a fitness expert. But on April 2007 he learned his body was fighting against him. On the same day he found out his wife would give birth to his first son in a few months, Bolduc discovered he had throat cancer.
Bolduc "hit the ground," he said. Instead of visiting China with his wife and helping her plan for their son's birth, Bolduc was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. His throat was so sore that swallowing anything, even a pill, was painful. The thought of holding his new born son spurred him to beat his cancer. Four weeks after his treatment ended, his son, Kayden was born and Bolduc was able to hold him in his arms.
"But after few months when I was able to eat normally, I went crazy and ate everything," Bolduc said. "Then until I realized I gain so much weight in short of time."
His weight ballooned up to 178 pounds. His body fat percentage was at its highest.
Then he heard about the Lee Labrada Lean Body Challenge. The prize for the greatest body transformation in 12 weeks was a cruise and a chance to train with Labrada in Houston, Texas. Labrada is a former Mr. Universe and world-renowned body builder.
Bolduc worked hard. At the beginning, he could only do 10 to 12 minutes walking on the treadmill. The former body builder struggled with 20 pound weights. And last year, Bolduc showed his body who was boss. His weight dropped to 152 pounds. His body fat percentage was 5.9 percent. He won the challenge, the cruise and the chance to train with Labrada on Feb. 9 in Houston.
It's not often someone has a chance to train with someone like him," Bolduc said. "He is one of thee few people in the history of bodybuilding to compete in seven Mr. Olympia competitions in a row and every year he finished in the top 4."
The next day, Bolduc will take the cruise with his family before returning to Canada. He is inspiring others internationally with online training programs and a bi-monthly newsletter. He is also writing a book on Express Fat Loss.
"I hope my story will inspire my clients and everyone who wants to reach their goals," Bolduc said. "No matter whatever happens, you can achieve your dreams and be healthy."
