The rapid evolution of Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) have not only created business opportunities and new synergies across technology platforms - they have created disruption, confusion, and management challenges among user IT and business executives. Without cohesive architectures that can unify these disruptive new technologies with the installed base of prior technology investments, both startup companies and established enterprises will face considerable challenges and unexpected costs in the 3rd and 4th waves of SaaS and cloud computing.
This is the crux of the Day 1 closing keynote presentation to be delivered by Saugatuck Technology VP of Research Mike West at the upcoming Glue conference (GlueCon), to be held May 12-13 in Denver, Colorado. Titled "Harnessing the Cloud," West's session will look at the promise and challenges of such cloud-based platform capabilities and offerings as SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, and the core business value for users and providers that make these technology solutions (and their related challenges) inevitable. Key issues to be addressed in the session include:
- How do enterprises view these technology opportunities and the challenges they represent?
- What are the inhibiting concerns that may prevent or delay adoption and what solutions are required to overcome key challenges and facilitate implementation?
- How will the cloud computing ecosystem evolve?
"The emergence of the cloud doesn't solve the problem of user IT and business silos and stovepipes. In fact, these new platforms introduce new integration and workflow challenges," shared West, also a member of the GlueCon advisory board. "We will bring to bear the latest Saugatuck cloud computing survey and interview research to help all GlueCon attendees understand what's really happening in the Cloud, what's most likely to occur, and how to plan and manage accordingly."
"We're thrilled to have Mike and Saugatuck's insights as an integral part of our conference. We are looking forward to not only Mike's keynote, but to bringing the best leading-edge research, insight and guidance to these challenges and issues," adds Eric Norlin, the Founder of GlueCon. "Glue is the only conference devoted solely to this new problem facing enterprise architects, developers and integrators. At Glue, we'll explore the new technologies that are forming to solve the web application integration problem-set."
