Jupiter, FL (PRWEB) January 26, 2009
Ron Kauffman continues to expand his national involvement with issues of aging in his new role as a contributing expert in the field of caregiving with his selection by Gilbert Guide to become a columnist for their online publication. Gilbert Guide provides a website dedicated to caregiving and support of patients and families dealing with a wide range of aging issues and the demands and challenges of caregiving. His first article appears in the January 16, 2009 issue of Gilbert Guide and can be found at http://www.GilbertGuide.com.
"It is my desire to identify and discuss many issues that you will face as a family caregiver if you find yourself thrust into the role of parenting your parent or significant other," says Kauffman, "and my columns will deal with challenges I've faced and met while dealing with my mother's illness. I plan to discuss problems like how to successfully insert yourself into your parent's lives, the challenge of taking away a parent's car and independence, dealing with financial and sexual exploitation, and the difficult discussions and decisions surrounding placing your loved one in a care facility."
Kauffman spent more than 4-years as host of the nationally acclaimed live radio talk show, Boomer & Senior LifeStyles which featured more than 500 interviews with guest experts discussing topics ranging from health to wealth and lifestyles. His guests included the Secretary of Social Security Jo Ann Barnhart, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and hundreds of other medical experts and professionals who discussed the latest in caregiving, diagnosis and treatment of diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, depression and diabetes along with healthy aging and lifestyle suggestions.
Among his many honors, Kauffman includes having attended the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, being named the 2006 recipient of the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging "Positive Images of Aging Award," and in 2007 being selected as a Fellow by the National Press Foundation for his work in broadcast journalism.
In addition to his new column for Gilbert Guide, Mr. Kauffman is a private consultant to families who are dealing with issues of aging and caregiving, as well as a sought-after public speaker. He and his wife, a geriatric care manager in private practice, live in Jupiter, FL.
