High-tech software on jobsites to link builders, installers, manufacturers and homeowners with photos and instruction

The International Builders' Show: Quality Built® announced today the release of an innovative program that digitally connects builders and homeowners with the very products that are installed in the home, making the printed instructions, warranty cards and user registrations obsolete.

The ProductLink™ system is a new Web-based software program running on ruggedized field computers. Products used to create the home--from appliances to structural hardware--are registered into the system where quality checkpoints and other valuable information are stored for the installers and homeowners.

The program is part of a comprehensive database of more than 40 million quality checkpoints collected by Quality Built, the Nation's largest quality assurance firm serving builders nationally. "For the first time, a dishwasher manufacturer can now see their product being installed and know exactly who installed it, when and where," stated Stan Luhr, Quality Built's CEO. "The products are automatically registered with the companies, ensuring you get good warranty service or are alerted to recalls." Luhr added that the system provides instruction to the installer using 'checkpoints' to ensure its proper installation and when answered, provide valuable feedback to the manufacturer.

ProductLink provides instant communication from manufacturers to the actual consumer and even subsequent homeowners via their consumer-oriented Web site,, where consumer information is stored from the builder's construction operations. Luhr said, "On our system, the builder is taking digital pictures and promoting them to the Home ID® Web site, where their clients watch the home being built. ProductLink now allows the manufacturers to be part of that communication loop, with great benefits for the consumer."

Luhr believes that product manufacturers are the missing quality link in today's construction industry and providing instant digital communications will improve the quality and durability of products and services after the home is built. "Imagine your furnace manufacturer sending you a reminder to change your filters. They can automatically send you the filters, tell you how to do it, or send someone to install them for you. That's convenience."

Stan Luhr is CEO and founder of Quality Built of San Diego, CA. He is a nationally recognized expert in construction issues and builder risk, and is a frequent lecturer at insurance, builder, and technical housing and quality conferences. Mr. Luhr started Quality Built in 1994 to stem the wave of construction defect litigation claims that were plaguing builders on the west coast.

The Quality Built system is recognized as the premier risk management tool, employed on thousands of construction sites around the country, from single-family homes to the largest production builder operations. It is the only program that has been exclusively endorsed or mandated by leading insurance companies around the Nation.

Quality Built has numerous trademarks and published patents on its systems designed to identify, measure and eliminate construction risk. Quality Built is headquartered in San Diego, California is the Nation's first construction quality assurance firm whose Quality Management System is ISO 9001:2000 registered.
