PlayPiano.com's own Duane Shinn shares his secrets of learning to play chord progressions and how they can be used to play hundreds of songs. This course is based on the fact that the majority of popular songs are based on simple chord progressions that can be easily learned and played on piano. The techniques presented work for any style of music including rhythm & blues, pop, rock, ragtime, jazz, and praise & worship.
The 96-page book shows every note in every chord covered in the course and provides a basic framework for the piano player to play their chosen songs. The book also provides instruction on the mathematics of music, how progressions are formed, and how the same chord progression is used in a number of different songs such as "Blue Moon," "Unchained Melody," and "Heart and Soul." Dozens of chord progressions are presented in the course along with how and when to use them and how they relate to each other.
Also presented are "riffs" and "runs" that help tie each chord progression together and add style and flair to each song played. These can also be used for interesting ways to change from chord to chord and to create intros and segues to other songs.
The accompanying DVD provides a private lesson with Duane as he illustrates and plays each progression in detail and summarizes all the material presented. A large, multicolor binder is also included.
