Danville honoring hero US Airways pilot with small-town celebration

Captain Sully back home in Danville

I was told that thousands of people came and stood for hours just to say 'Thank You' to Sully...and that says a lot for this community

Thousands of people gathered to honor US Airways Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger at a celebration this afternoon in Danville.

"I was told that thousands of people came and stood for hours just to say 'Thank You' to Sully...and that says a lot for this community," says Ben Altadonna president of Information Marketing Consultants whose world headquarters is located 1/2 block from the event and who was spotted sitting amongst the "who's who" of Danville.

"It doesn't surprise me that the Pilot of US Airways flight 1549 lives here in Danville. I've lived in a lot of communities and I've met more people in Danville who are at the top of their professions here than anywhere else. It's sort of strange!" says Altadonna.

Sully gave a very short speech to express his appreciation to the crowd of 4,000-5,000 people and appeared very moved by the reception.
