To celebrate the Chinese New Year festival, cheap international call provider Localphone.com will be rewarding all customers with five hours of free talk time to Chinese landlines and mobiles.
The Chinese New Year celebration triggers the world's largest human migration when families gather for reunion dinners and "new-year visits". As the global financial crisis tightens its grip an increasing population of Chinese ex-pats and migrant workers won't have the means to make the annual pilgrimage. With their free calling promotion Localphone hopes to provide the next best thing.
Each day of the festivities a Localphone customer's first twenty minutes of calls to any Chinese landline or mobile will be completely free--plenty of time to wish a different friend or family member a Happy New Year each day. Over the 15 days of the festival (January 26th - February 9th 2009) this amounts to a massive 5 hours of free talk time.
"We've had a spectacular first year in business, with China as one of our most popular calling destinations," said Paul Cusack, Localphone CEO. "We recognise that many of our customers are being affected by the economic downturn; we want to offer this promotion so the Chinese community can keep in touch with family and friends throughout the festive period. We plan to run similar promotions throughout the year to help relieve the pressure where we can."
Customers will be billed as usual and on February 10th will receive a rebate equal to the value of free talk time used. Localphone's standard call rate to China is a low 1¢ per minute (for comparison, Rebtel charge 1.9¢, Skype 2.1¢, and Jajah 3.3¢).
Localphone.com provides cheap international calls from landlines and mobiles in 44 countries, and can also be used via a broadband Internet connection from anywhere in the world with a Localphone VoIP account.
