Five Must-Dos for the Recently Engaged: This is the Time of Year for Proposals and All That Comes with Them

The days between Christmas and Valentine's Day yield more brides- and grooms-to-be than any other time of year. Once the proposal is accepted, however, many of the newly engaged couples are not always sure how to start planning for the big day. eRegistry.com has put together a list of five tips below to help couples begin their journey toward marriage.

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 29, 2009 -- The days between Christmas and Valentine's Day yield more brides- and grooms-to-be than any other time of year. Once the proposal is accepted, however, many of the newly engaged couples are not always sure how to start planning for the big day. eRegistry.com has put together a list of five tips below to help couples begin their journey toward marriage.

Tip 1: Tell the World - This is one of the most exciting times of your entire life. You and your fiancé should share your joy with friends, families, co-workers, and anyone else who will listen. Yes, eventually it will get old. But at the beginning, revel in the joy of knowing you are going to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. Call your friends, change your Facebook status and send a message to Twitter.

Tip 2: Create a Webpage - With so much going into a wedding these days, creating a webpage will enable your family and friends to keep up with you without having to constantly call, text and email. There are many free services out there, but the best ones will offer tools that incorporate every aspect with your big day - your registry, photos, schedules, RSVP responses, etc. It should also be a breeze to customize your webpage with your own look and feel, story and personality.

Tip 3: Establish a Budget - Weddings can be very stressful, especially when the bride, groom, parents and others don't have the same expectations. Setting a budget at the very beginning of the planning process will help to get everyone on the same page in terms of what is doable and what is not. It will alleviate uncomfortable conversations about money throughout the process if you just settle on things on day one.

Tip 4: Hire a Wedding Planner - Regardless of the size, scope and cost of your wedding, a professional planner can be very helpful. He or she is your guide, your trusted advisor and often your firefighter. A planner has great contacts and vendors that you can use - reducing the risk of getting stuck without flowers, food or the band.

Tip 5: Start a Registry - There are many events leading up to the wedding that are gift-worthy. Some people will want to get you something right away, especially if your wedding date is far off. There are so many online registry options available today, that it can sometimes feel overwhelming to pick the right one. Yet, there are three things that all engaged couples should expect from their registry: unlimited gift options, ability to register for monetary gifts and ability to donate to charity. Starting a gift registry and tracking your gifts is fun - so don't let a day of that pass you by.
