PR company Punch Communications has been appointed by Qype, the UK's largest local search and recommendation site, to undertake a PR campaign and specifically to represent the UK site to consumer, business and trade media both on and offline.
Qype, which launched in the UK in September 2007, was founded in Hamburg in 2005 and is now the Europe's largest local search and recommendation website, with more than 7 million unique users per month, 700,000+ public reviews, and more than 15,000 European towns and cities covered. Qype is a communication platform that allows users to discover places, businesses and services in their local area, and share opinions. The company recently received the 2007 Red Herring 100 Award for one of the best European start-ups of the year.
An initial activity is to launch Qype Radar, Europe's first location-based iPhone application to feature integrated user reviews and recommendations. The service is free both to download and use and has spread virally amongst Europe's iPhone users that are keen to utilise their device's leading edge geo-location functionality.
Andrew Hunter, UK Country Manager, Qype, commented:
"The Punch team was not only extremely keen and passionate from the outset but also it was evident that they were extremely connected to our target media, which was a key factor in our decision to work together. Within days, the campaign has already gathered momentum, with not only press coverage but also meetings with national media achieved. Based on our experience to date, we look forward to a strong ongoing relationship."
Pete Goold, MD of PR Agency Punch Communications added:
"Qype is a perfect client for Punch - the business is heavyweight in every respect, with serious financial backing, a highly experienced management team and aggressive, global aspirations. Already we've been able to draw upon our Digital PR experience across the dotcom sector, including media contacts, to be able to generate some results within the first days of working together."
