New Pregnancy-Resource Center to Serve NW Suburbs of Twin Cities, MN

WomenSource a pregnancy resource center opens new facility in Northern Suburbs of Minneapolis, St. Paul MN.

Osseo, MN (PRWEB) January 30, 2009 -- Women facing unintended pregnancies have a new place to turn for help. Focusing on restoring hope for women facing unplanned pregnancies, WomenSource is located in the Cobblestone Square office building, at 106 Central Avenue, in downtown Osseo. WomenSource serves the communities of Osseo, Maple Grove, Brooklyn Park, Rogers, and surrounding areas.

Sharon Soderlund, the founding executive director of WomenSource, is the former director of the Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Staffed by trained volunteers and funded entirely by donations, WomenSource is a nonprofit organization, created to help women explore their options and provide them with resources to make informed decisions. Assistance is available throughout their pregnancy and the first year following birth. WomenSource offers free and confidential services, including pregnancy tests, counseling about options, and parenting/life-skills education. Referrals are given for prenatal care, information about adoption, financial assistance, etc. Medical services, including ultrasounds, will be added in the future, when funding allows.

"Sometimes women feel that abortion is their only option," said Patricia Montgomery, president of WomenSource's board of directors. "We show them that there are other options. As a community, we are concerned about people facing unplanned pregnancies, and we are willing to provide assistance and support."

An "earn-while-you-learn" program is being developed, so that expectant moms can receive necessities, such as bottles, diapers, clothing, and formula, in exchange for time spent learning about things such as money-management, health and nutrition for children, and parenting skills.

"We are also concerned about men," said Chuck Anderson, treasurer of the board. "They are not to be forgotten. We hope to offer a men's group in the future."

The public was invited to visit this new community resource at a community open house and bake sale that was held the weekend before Thanksgiving, 2008, at WomenSource (106 Central Avenue, Osseo).
