Cheyne is founder of http://www.GoRough.com, a web-based directory for outdoor lodging that aims to cover locations throughout the United States and Canada. With the possibility of thousands of campsites across North America, Cheyne admits that undertaking this goal is a daunting one, but one that he deems necessary, particularly to help promote smaller businesses.
"My goal is to cater to the small business owners, not larger chains," he said.
Upon logging onto GoRough.com, both the traveler and the lodger can see that the website features well-detailed information, as well as a profile of participating businesses. The profiles can double as the official website for the clients, as they also contain maps and high quality photographs of the accommodations. Best of all, is that a profile on Go Rough won't break the bank for the Mom and Pop's.
"One of our goals was to provide an affordable site for small businesses to advertise and have an internet presence," said Cheyne. "Many of these places don't have websites and we can offer the web space for them."
The site's unique feature, however, is the fact that people can search for the right destination based on facilities, services and activities, an idea that was a large part of the website's origin.
"Searching for a place based on specific amenities proved to be a bit difficult, which is how this database-driven project came about," said Cheyne.
Cheyne is quick to point out that Go Rough is not here to be a third party site, but rather to act as a directory service that will help campers and RVers find the perfect vacation spot.
"When people click on the client's information, they're not contacting me, they're contacting the client directly," he said.
Another helpful featured on GoRough.com is its blog, http://www.WildernessAccommodations.com.
The blog will cater to both clients and users as Cheyne plans to have articles relevant to the businesses that subscribe to GoRough.com, as well as featuring the profiles for some of their clients.
As the spring season edges closer, GoRough.com is debuting at a time when people are beginning to make their plans and thanks to a site like GoRough, choosing a desired outdoor lodging location has never been this easy.
