One Step Retail Solutions Finds Beachwear Retailer, Gone Bananas Beachwear, Doing Quite Well Despite the Cold Economic Climate

A new case study finds Gone Bananas Beachwear closes out 2008 with yet again another profitable year in retail. Owner Tom O'Hara attributes much of his success to his inventory management and Retail Pro point of sale software is named as a key ingredient.

In troubling economic times, One Step Retail Solutions has found that despite the current economic downturn, there are still quite a handful of businesses out there that are maintaining their strength and adding to it, while others, prompted by the recession, back down from the fight. In a new case study on Gone Bananas Beachwear, One Step found a retailer who knows his customers and their needs, and keeps his inventory current with very little markdowns. A family-run business, Gone Bananas is no stranger to the apparel industry's leading POS software Retail Pro, having used it for the last 10 years.

The case study reveals that for Gone Bananas the secret to surviving the economic times is all about inventory. "By keeping a lean and mean inventory and keeping very close track of what is and what is not selling, we have lessened markdowns and improved turnover," says Tom O'Hara, owner of Gone Bananas. Located in Mission Beach near San Diego, California, the store specializes in Junior Swim Wear and is run by Tom and his two sons, Andrew and Patrick. "We have over 15,000 tops and bottoms in stock and are one of the largest stores of this kind in the country," O'Hara says with pride. "And our point of sale software, Retail Pro, has dramatically helped to make us good at what we do. It has really helped us to be up there with the big boys."
