The Lakes at Litchfield, an all-inclusive retirement community located in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, held a grand re-opening of its clubhouse Wednesday, January 28th to showcase the renovations as well as hold a reception for Barnie Slice, a renowned local artist and instructor at Coastal Carolina University.
After a brief ceremony, guests were treated to live music and feasted on shrimp, oysters, caviar and a variety of cheeses and fruit. An artist reception followed, which allowed attendees to view the art collection and speak with Slice.
The Lakes at Litchfield honors local artists three times a year by displaying their work on the walls of their art gallery for several months. Slice's original artwork, which features an enticing array of watercolor acrylics and oil paintings of landscapes and seascapes, is available for purchase and will be on display through the end of April.
A drawing was held at the end of the event where a lucky winner was presented with one of Slice's paintings. Please visit http://www.lakes-litchfield.com/images/barnie_slice01.jpg to view a photo of the artist and painting that was given away.

"I thought it was a grand occasion and a milestone at The Lakes at Litchfield," said Jewell Cannon, The Lakes at Litchfield member. "The food was delicious and I look forward to spending many more happy hours in the clubhouse's beautiful atmosphere."
The event showcased the extensive renovations that the clubhouse underwent which included the conversion of the library/living room to Plantation Hall, a beautifully appointed social area conducive to card playing, happy hour meetings, board games and casual gatherings.
The craft room was renovated and newly named "The SweetGrass Craft Room", while the old card room was renamed "The Gathering Room" and now features a floating floor, mirrors and exercise bars to enhance wellness classes. It was designed to double as a theater to accommodate up to 70 people with stackable chairs to easily convert the space. A large retractable screen and projection system was installed along with a sound system to enable the community to host events with speakers, educational and travel programs as well as movies.
The mail room was turned into an internet café and named "The Turner Internet Café" after Ralph Turner, one of the resident volunteers. It hosts two computers, built in storage space and desks that serve as an intimate meeting area for coffee and tea.
Each area received new flooring, wallpaper and/or paint and Plantation shutters in all windows.
In addition, the private dining room was renamed "The Low Country Private Dining Room".
