The goal of the new technique is to make laparoscopic surgery better by decreasing the number of incisions
Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) February 4, 2009
Dr. Trace Curry has completed the first single-incision gastric band weight-loss surgery in Cincinnati.
Rather than the traditional five incisions used for laparoscopic gastric banding, surgeons used a single incision, reducing scarring, accelerating healing, and causing less pain.
"The goal of the new technique is to make laparoscopic surgery better by decreasing the number of incisions," said Dr. Curry. "Fewer scars are better cosmetically and potentially better for pain control. The pain may be less because you alleviate additional cuts, and therefore the recovery may be faster."
Dr. Curry completed the procedure on January 28 at JourneyLite of Cincinnati, a weight loss surgery center specializing in gastric banding procedure for weight loss. Dr. Curry was also the first surgeon in Ohio to perform gastric banding using the REALIZE band from Johnson&Johnson, as well as long-term proctor for Allergan's LAP-BAND System showing him to be a true innovator in the field of gastric banding.
