Herndon, VA (PRWEB) February 4, 2009 –-
Rivulet Communications, whose technology enables flawless HD Medical Video on the hospital local-area network, announced the availability of the IP Extension Gateway (IEG), which extends the reach of medical video to remote locations via wide-area network or the Internet. The result is a quantum leap in access to medical video for live collaboration as well as on-demand retrieval of stored video.
“There are unlimited potential applications to this innovative approach, both inside and outside the hospital,” said Ed Kennedy, Rivulet CEO. “Live video can be made available to scores of users for consultation or training, or a physician can review recordings of cases from a PC at their office or even at home.”
“Forward-looking healthcare systems will see many opportunities to increase their impact and broaden their influence outside the physical medical center, while improving efficiency, patient care, and making staff more productive,” said Dr. Jay Sanders, president and CEO, The Global Telemedicine Group. “Rivulet has led the industry in medical video networking on the hospital campus. Now with the ability to stream video anywhere, the applications expand dramatically.”
The IEG provides remote staff with a secure web-based client application, powered by an integrated hardware platform. The web-based client lets users join live video sessions and browse, view and control stored videos and images with point-and-click ease. To aid HIPAA compliance, it requires user authentication on a per-user, per content basis. The integrated hardware platform provides powerful media processing and network capabilities that interconnects the existing Rivulet on campus components such as the Rivulet IES (IP Endpoint System) and AES (Archive Endpoint System) products to the web-based clients on the web or the campus network.
The IEG is optimized to deliver the best possible quality SD or HD video over the Internet or private wide area network. The IEG can also deliver a video stream, or multiple incoming video streams, to multiple destinations. With Rivulet, the benefits of HD medical video are available wherever healthcare professionals need them, when they need them, at the best possible quality. Surgical teams can demonstrate new procedures in real time; interact between pathology and the OR improving knowledge transfer and decision making; and, enhance patient records by adding video clips.
Rivulet will demonstrate the IP Extension Gateway at the AORN 56th Annual Congress, March 14 - 19, 2009, McCormick Place West Building, Chicago, Illinois.
