For large, expanding DB2 UDB systems, implementing StorHouse/UDB Link and StorHouse/RM can enhance database and network performance, reduce associated storage costs, and automate or eliminate many repetitive database administration tasks
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) February 10, 2009
FileTek, Inc., a pioneer developer of innovative information and data management solutions, today announced the availability of StorHouse/UDB Link, wrapper software that implements the connection between IBM® DB2® UDB and StorHouse® databases. StorHouse/UDB Link gives DB2 users near-transparent access to the terabytes to petabytes of data supported by StorHouse/RM, the StorHouse relational database manager. StorHouse/RM is a fully functional, relational archival data store. It optimizes direct, row-level, SQL access to very large volumes of detail data on any storage layer, including tape, in a fully automated data and storage hierarchy.
The volume of information at many organizations is growing exponentially - in some cases doubling every 3-6 months. Such explosive growth drives the need for bigger budgets to cover increased storage requirements and higher storage management costs. StorHouse/UDB Link can help organizations using DB2 UDB overcome such challenges with its unparalleled scalability, multiple storage options, and cost-effective operation.
StorHouse/UDB Link enables organizations to selectively move older, less frequently accessed data from DB2 UDB to a StorHouse information management system. Users maintain fully functional, relational access to migrated data not only from the originating DB2 UDB system but also directly from other platforms and applications across the enterprise. By reducing the amount of data in the operational DB2 UDB system, organizations can realize faster database load times; quicker query executions; and reduced timeframes for performing periodic data backups, space recovery, and general database administration tasks. The bottom line is a lower-cost, infinitely scalable, easily accessible, online solution for DB2 users.
StorHouse/RM is a more dynamic and efficient database extension strategy than classic hierarchical storage management (HSM) products, which typically store offloaded historical data offline. With HSMs, operations staff must first retrieve targeted data from the HSM system, move it to the DB2 server, and then reload the data into DB2 - all before a query can be executed. With StorHouse/UDB Link, no reloading of data is necessary. Users or applications can submit a single query to access information in both DB2 UDB and StorHouse/RM at any time.
"For large, expanding DB2 UDB systems, implementing StorHouse/UDB Link and StorHouse/RM can enhance database and network performance, reduce associated storage costs, and automate or eliminate many repetitive database administration tasks," remarked Chuck Whinney, Vice President of North American Sales for FileTek. "Moreover, with StorHouse/UDB Link, users maintain full access to the DB2 UDB system and gain online access to historical DB2 data migrated to StorHouse/RM. And, because StorHouse/RM can also warehouse relational data from non-DB2 UDB sources, companies can use it as a centralized enterprise-wide data mart, thus making more detail data available to users and analysts throughout the organization."
