We went through a checklist of items and variables and researched them. I wanted to make a one-stop information site for the caregivers and families.

According to research published by SeniorCareAdvocates.com, the average cost of a nursing home in California in 2004 was $60,000 annually. Naturally, inflation has probably caused that number to increase and due to the current economy, it's understandable to know why many families do not see retirement homes as an option.
Patricia Rico is someone who has had to care for her parents and other elderly relatives and came to find joy in being a caregiver. "I have a passion for caring for seniors," she began.
When it came to searching for resources to help Rico provide the best care possible, she found that such networks were few and far between. In November 2008, Rico took everything she had learned on her own and launched http://www.Spirit-OfLife.com, an all-encompassing resource for senior care and needs.
"The items that are posted on the site are things that my sister and I had to learn," Rico explained. "We went through a checklist of items and variables and researched them. I wanted to make a one-stop information site for the caregivers and families."
With a wide variety of information and links that range from Adult Protective Service to prescription drugs to physical rehabilitation programs to living trusts and wills, Spirit of Life has a service waiting for anyone who needs it.
"Every category and bit of information have been based on both experience and research," Rico said. "I wanted to make sure that everything on the site is truthful."
Rico updates the site on a weekly basis and has started a new blog that offers a "Spiritual Corner", as well as updated information and news, including topics such as Alzheimer's, that affect a segment of the elderly community.
"I wanted it to be something that had some spiritual content to it," Rico said of http://www.SeniorSunrise.com.
Rico admits that her fondness for not only senior care, but the seniors themselves is related to the fact that there's much to learn from those who have lived full lives, rather than taking them for granted. "All senior citizens deserve our respect, and their personal dignity must be upheld."
And for like minded caregivers, Rico has heard nothing but compliments about Spirit of Life. "People have seen this site and said, 'We need this.' These topics can be researched individually, but there isn't one place that addresses ALL of these topics," Rico said. "I have this passion, for caring for seniors." There is a lot of information that goes with it, so I've just tried to put it in a concise and easy-to-read way. "I want to help others help their loved ones."
