Chantilly, VA (PRWEB) February 10, 2009
Today the Foundation for Caregivers launched Weigh To Give™, http://www.weightogive.org, America's first weight-loss-a-thon. Participants in this virtual event commit to lose pounds and earn sponsor dollars for an IRS approved charity of their choosing.
The Foundation uses a unique 'shared- resource' approach; providing the entire system, including all back-office services, with no upfront fee. Once an organization completes the online application, they can use the Weigh To Give system for free as often as they wish; 100% of donated funds go to charity, 75% to the participant's charity and the remainder to the Foundation. This is grassroots philanthropy, self-directed fundraising with no middleman and no grant request. The sole approval criterion is verification of nonprofit status against the IRS database. This requires only one business day.
The 2009 goal is for 2 million participants to lose 10 million pounds while raising $50 million for community charities.
"Small to midsized charities are the lifeblood of our nonprofit system. They are the source of most new ideas, programs, and street-level services. These organizations always struggle for funds, but they are particularly hard hit during this difficult economic time" said Tim Griswold, Executive Director and founder of the Foundation For Caregivers. "The Weigh To Give program embodies our core values by linking our own fundraising strategy with our giving strategy and our caring mission."
Weigh to Give democratizes fundraising, empowering even the smallest organization to raise money by making weight-loss a charitable mission where participants exchange pounds for sponsor dollars. It is both vendor and charity neutral, developed and provided by the Foundation for Caregivers independent of government or commercial sponsorship. It is completely online, paper-free and travel-free. Anyone anywhere can participate.
Weigh To Give is more than a fundraiser for community charities; it is a self-funding national health initiative that makes sense for communities while making more than cents for community charities. Weigh To Give fights obesity while funding dream dreams.
