A partnership between The DICK'S Sporting Goods BolderBoulder 10K and MapMyRun.com will enable runners around the world to enter a virtual version of the 10K.

Anyone who has moved away after running the race in the past or can't make it for any reason can now be a part of our Memorial Day tradition.

The DICK'S Sporting Goods BolderBOULDER, which hosts more than 50,0000 participants annually in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado, is branching out in a new partnership with MapMyRun.com. The Virtual 10K on Memorial Day, hosted by MapMyRun.com, will allow anyone worldwide to run the 10K event.

On March 1, 2009, MapMyRun.com will launch the DICK'S Sporting Goods BolderBOULDER Virtual 10K event. The site will allow anyone, anywhere, to run the 10K. Virtual 10K participants can run for the event in their own neighborhood or anywhere they choose, individually or with a group of friends or family. The virtual 10K results will be compared against all finishers of the existing 10K event taking place in Boulder, Colorado on May 25th, 2009.

Virtual 10K participants can sign up at bolderboulder.com and interact with MapMyRun.com to create a 10K route by pointing-and-clicking where they want to run their 10K challenge. While participants run their 10K, data will be collected using iMapMyRun, iPhone, Garmin, and/or Timex GPS data collection devices. A separate virtual results page will show how virtual runners ranked against all finishers. Virtual 10K participants will receive an official race T-shirt, a bib number, a CD with songs from course bands, a keepsake lunch bag and a results certificate in the mail.

With participants running in the official race location of Boulder, Colorado, and the virtual 10K participants running through their neighborhoods and cities around the world, the BolderBOULDER continues to be a 10K of world magnitude and makes a virtual experience available to everyone anywhere.

"We are very excited about this new technology and the doors it will open to participants around the globe," said Cliff Bosley, race director of the BolderBOULDER. "Anyone who has moved away after running the race in the past or can't make it for any reason can now be a part of our Memorial Day tradition."

"MapMyRun.com is very excited to be working with the BolderBOULDER to provide this innovative concept and technology to the runners who cannot attend the live event but who still want to participate," said Robin Thurston, CEO of MapMyFitness.
