Lower Gwynedd, PA (PRWEB) February 11, 2009 --Harth Builders, a second generation design/build/remodeling company, has received Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) Certification. Aging-in-Place focuses on designs and products geared for all ages with a wide variety of special needs. Harth Builders remodels to meet families changing needs and circumstances. Whether your loved ones are aging, face physical ability or size challenges, face recent changes in health or mobility, Aging-In-Place design enables homeowners to maintain their quality of life and the ability to live where they love, comfortably and safely, without having to move.

The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place. The NAHB Remodeler's Council, in collaboration with the AARP, NAHB Research Center, and NAHB Seniors Housing Council, developed this program to provide comprehensive, practical, market-specific information about working with older and maturing adults to remodel their homes for aging-in-place.

Potential Aging-in-Place ideas include the following:

  • First floor master bedroom and bathroom
  • First floor laundry room
  • Accessible appliances and storage in the kitchen
  • Curbless entry showers with built-in seat/shower wand
  • Lever handles on doors and plumbing fixtures
  • Slip resistant flooring surfaces
  • Residential elevators
  • Abundant natural and artificial lighting
  • Handrails in areas of elevation change
  • Grab bars in wet areas
  • Electronic safety and security devices

"Helping a client live comfortably and safely in their home for another 15 years is one of the most rewarding things we do in our profession," says Allyn Harth, an Aging-in-Place expert due to his youthful 78 years of experience. It means the pleasure of living in a familiar environment throughout one's maturing years, and the ability to enjoy the familiar daily rituals and the special events that enrich all our lives. It means the reassurance of being able to call a house a "home" for a lifetime.
