Keri Morgret Takes Home the Top Prize; Recognized as Winner by Search Marketing Expo and Marin Software

On stage today at Search Marketing Expo West 2009 (SMX West), conference chair and Search Engine Land's Danny Sullivan awarded "The SMX Biggest Search Geek" prize to Keri Morgret, a seasoned search professional and non-profit website manager. Keri is now officially the "Biggest Search Geek in America" - beating nearly 1,700 contestants to take home the top prize. The contest was created by the producers of SMX and Marin Software, provider of the leading enterprise-class paid search management application for advertisers and agencies.

With a top score of 76.8%, Morget handily beat out the competition; the next highest-score was 73%. The SMX Biggest Search Geek Contest was open to anyone with the mettle to answer 20 tough questions about the ins-and-outs of search marketing. Contest questions were challenging, with the median score being 33.33% - but Morgret said her winning strategy was to take the time to carefully analyze each question before answering. An example of one of the questions was: "Name the meta tag that can be used to block indexing of a page", followed by multiple choice options.

Morgret is the Open Educational Resources (OER) Commons Site Manager at The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME), where she supports ISKME's efforts in the development of global Open Education initiatives. In her role at ISKME, Keri has used search marketing to drive traffic to their non-profit website. Her background and interests include online learning, usability, information design, social media, search engines, and information retrieval. She received an M.A. in Learning, Design, and Technology from Stanford University.
