Richland, WA (PRWEB) February 13, 2009
ActionEcho, a local echocardiography service, has received accreditation from the distinguished Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) for adult transthoracic echocardiography. ActionEcho is one of three ICAEL accredited echocardiography laboratories in the Tri-City area, and one of 34 within the State of Washington.
Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experience and training of both the physician and sonographer whose interpretive and technical abilities determine the diagnostic accuracy of the exam. ICAEL is an independent, non-profit agency that evaluates the quality of these and other critical elements of an echocardiography lab prior to granting accreditation.
Echocardiography is an effective and important tool in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disorders and disease. It has become the diagnostic standard in cardiology for detecting cardiac structure and flow patterns that may indicate disease or irregularities.
One American dies every 32 seconds of cardiovascular disease, disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, costing society over 83.7 billion dollars each year in health services, medications and lost work time do to disability. To combat these numbers an estimated 10 million echocardiograms are performed annually in the US.
