Leading mobile marketing firm http://www.txtlocal.co.uk has discovered that SMS text messaging is the top tool for sports clubs wishing to keep in direct contact with players and fans.
According to Txtlocal the biggest text enthusiasts are Rugby, Football and Golf clubs, sending out messages to their members and fans, keeping them up to date with events and activities at the club. The Txtlocal SMS service allows clubs to send personalised text messages directly to groups of recipients from a PC from as little as 3p a message.
Nelson RFC in Wales is just one of a string of Rugby clubs having success from text campaigns. The club use text to communicate with coaches and players regarding match and training times, committee meetings and team selection. Rob Bowden club manager says that text has worked wonders for player attendance at training sessions. “We had a great response to our training day alerts and actually needed to introduce a whole new team after a 15% increase in training attendance.”
Football Club Preston North End also uses SMS to keep players organised and up to speed on all club news, with regular text updates. A Spokesperson for the club said that text is ideal for speedy mass communication “It’s ideal for sending out key messages to large groups of people quickly and easily.”
Leatherhead Golf Club, based in Surrey has also had success using text as a marketing tactic. The club sent out off peak green fee deals, they also use text to promote events and functions at the club. Tim Lowe, Leatherhead Golf Club Events Manager comments: “As soon as a text promotion is sent out, the response is immediate with many people taking the offers up!”
