CRC Press recently published a second edition of Violence Assessment and Intervention: The Practitioner's Handbook, a leading book on workplace violence. This book, which is rooted in the background and skill set each author developed over the course of his career, provides a practical guide for evaluating potential threat situations in order to take preventative action before a tragedy occurs. This book first describes a violence risk assessment model and then continues by proceeding though each of the steps that quantify a particular risk situation to determine an appropriate response. The book also includes a description of key tools for violence assessment, including information gathering and victimology.

According to Dr. Alan Felthouse, professor of clinical psychology, "Not steeped in data and actuarial research on risk assessment, this is a practical handbook that shares the observations, insights, reasoning, and techniques gained from the authors' years of experiences in preventing and reducing violence at work and in other settings."
