Orangeburg, SC (PRWEB) February 15, 2009 -- Zeus, Inc. announces a new technology platform in the field of electrospinning, a process that produces polymer fibers with thicknesses ranging from the nano to microscale. Zeus is able to develop fabrics with complex shapes from solutions, pastes, and bioabsorbables. Electrospun polymers produce fibers and fabrics with high surface to weight and volume ratios, which makes these materials excellent candidates for controlled biological interactions and filtration media (stand alone and coding).
In the biological area, the porous nature of the fabric allows for the formation of implantable structures within the body. Cellular growth is allowed as the electrospun fabric acts as a scaffolding to permit integration into the body. In the case of bioabsorbable materials, the scaffolding is eventually absorbed, leaving a structure of the body's own cells intact.
