Arlington, TX February 13, 2009 -- The University of Texas-Arlington (UTA) has selected FieldTurf for installation at Maverick Stadium, the home of the school’s men’s and women’s track teams, and one of the most utilized track-and-field facilities in the Southwest. The announcement was made by Maverick Stadium Manager Tom Kloza and FieldTurf Tarkett CEO Joe Fields.
The installation will commence this July and will be in place for the Mavericks’ 2009 track season. FieldTurf will be replacing the facility’s previous ten-year old artificial turf.
“We are very pleased with our decision to install FieldTurf at Maverick Stadium,” said Stadium Manager Tom Kloza. “When we researched this issue, without question, FieldTurf was the most stable of all of the artificial turf companies. The technological aspects of FieldTurf, with the way they do things, were far in advance of their competitors. And the playability of FieldTurf is so far ahead of the others that this was really an easy decision.”
“I am excited that FieldTurf will be installed in Maverick Stadium,” said UTA Men’s and Women’s Head Track Coach John Sauerhage. “It will be a great addition to our facility and will help in our recruiting efforts now and in the future. Our athletes are already looking forward to working out on it.”
“Although FieldTurf is primarily known as a football surface, our track-and-field product is the finest in the industry,” said Fields. “With all of the track-and-field events hosted by Maverick Stadium, not just through the Texas-Arlington men’s and women’s track teams, but also at the high school and track club levels, this installation will provide great exposure for our outstanding product. We know that Tom Kloza and the folks at UTA did their due diligence in selecting FieldTurf, and it is our aim to provide them with the finest state-of-the-art surface available.”
Maverick Stadium opened in 1980 and has a seating capacity of 12,000. It is not only the home of UTA men’s and women’s track, but it is also one of the busiest high school sports facilities in the Southwest. In addition to hosting a steady stream of high school football and soccer, Maverick is considered one of the finest track-and-field facilities in the region. The stadium is the home of a significant amount of track-and-field competition, including high school meets, track club meets and various track camps.
More than 50 top NCAA universities currently play their home football games on FieldTurf, including Texas, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, West Virginia, Washington, Oregon, Missouri, Kansas State, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Louisville.
