Russian Star "Says it in Russian" at Hollywood Gym for the Stars

Russian Actress Agata Gotova, of Say it in Russian, starring Faye Dunaway, keeps fit in her new Hollywood habitat

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) February 15, 2009 -- What do Keanu Reeves, Queen Latifa, Adam Sandler have in common? They all stay fit for their movie roles at the same gym. "When I moved to Los Angeles, I didn't look for the gym where the stars work out," says Agata Gotova, Russian actress and star of "Say it in Russian," the award winning film that hits theaters this May. "In fact, I had no idea. One day I was intensely working out on the cardio machine. I looked up and this handsome guy said 'hi,' and I thought, 'That guy looks a lot like Keanu Reeves.'" Agata had good reason to believe that because he was Keanu Reeves. "I guess Hollywood is really a small place," said Agata. "A newcomer always asks around for referrals for doctors, dentists, etc. Trainers are no different. I was looking for the best Pilates trainer in town. But I had no idea that to book an appointment with her, I had to juggle schedules with Madonna.

The Fitness Factory private gym in West Hollywood is neither glamorous nor obtrusive. Plain and simple, it's just a place to work out like any other. Except most gyms don't have paparazzi lurking outside the door. "One day I was just walking from my Pilates session to the cardio room to finish my workout and I ran into Adam Sandler. He was juggling a water bottle in his hand. When I walked by, he said 'hi,' then almost dropped his water bottle. He fumbled it and recovered it in the slapstick style. It looked like something from a Three Stooges episode."

Agata is no newcomer to show business or running into stars. She produced and starred in her own celebrity interview series, "Faces & Names," which aired abroad and in syndication in 26 markets in the United States. In 2002, she acted as the creative director and host of the award winning celebrity profile series, "Autograph," profiling such stars as Tom Cruise, Ben Kingsley, Bo Derek and legends of Hollywood like Martin Landau and Janet Leigh.

Agata began her career in the former Soviet Union as a child television star on the daily children's morning program, "Budilnek," which means "alarm clock" in Russian. Budilnek was the Russian equivalent of "The Mickey Mouse Club" in America.    Upon leaving "Budilnek," she headlined the "Kalinka" dance troupe, a group of child dancers under the supervision of Choreographer in Chief Alexander Phillipov, and starred in the film, "Kalinka." She toured over much of the Asian and European continent with Kalinka, performing folk ballet.

After leaving Kalinka, Agata again took to the stage, starring in dramatic productions such as "The Kremlin Christmas Show," "Moscow Festival of Youth," and "Theatre de Jardin." Her stage career in Russia culminated when she was cast as a principal performer of "Political Cabaret," an ongoing revue, written by the famous Russian satirist, Mikhail Jevanetsky.

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Agata decided to leave Russia, and sought a new home in France, where she had visited during several of her performances. She studied French language and culture at Sorbonne University, and, after several years of living in Paris, Agata embarked on her latest adventure and another new country, The United States, but not just anywhere in the United States -- Hollywood.

In "Say it in Russian," Agata plays the lead role of Daria Larina, the daughter of a rich Russian mafia oligarch played by Serbian actor Rade Serbedzija. Gotova's character falls in love with the American Andrew Lamont, played by actor Steven Brand, but Andrew soon finds on a visit to Moscow that he is involved with a family that is more complicated and dangerous than he ever imagined. The film also stars Academy Award Winner Faye Dunaway, who plays the role of Jacqueline, a Paris socialite who acts as the matchmaker for Andrew and Daria.

"Say it in Russian" is the official selection for the 2009 Honolulu International Film Festival, the 2009 Omaha Film Festival, the 2008 Geneva Film Festival, and the 2008 Other Venice Film Festival, and the winner of Best Big Budget Film from the 2008 Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, a Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals 2009 International Film and Video Awards, Winner of Best in Show from The Indie Distribution Fest, as well as the winner of Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Actor.
