Database software company appoints three seasoned industry veterans to drive growth and support customer base

Greenplum, a leading provider of database software for the next generation of data warehousing and analytics, today announced that it will support its growing EMEA customer base through the opening of a first regional office and by appointing three senior figures to lead the business. The office, based just outside of London, includes Mark Adams, Director of Sales and Operations, Alex McMorland, Director of Professional Services, and Rennie Higson, Director of Business Development and Alliances. The team will bring the benefits of Greenplum Database's petabyte-scale analytics and massively parallel processing to businesses across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

"The EMEA region should prove to be a receptive and fertile ground for the Greenplum Database with organisations across public and private sectors beginning to feel the burden of rapidly growing data mountains," commented Adams. "The new UK team has joined Greenplum at a very exciting time in its development and we're looking forward to engaging with customers and partners around the region in the very near future, replicating the success already seen in the US and Asia."

Prior to Greenplum, Adams spent four years at IDBS Ltd where he held the position of VP Sales, Marketing and Professional Services, driving strategic positioning, sales and deployment of software solutions for optimisation of the drug discovery process within major Pharmaceutical and Biotech organisations. His previous experience includes senior level management positions within Aspentech, eCredit and Sun Microsystems.

Greenplum's EMEA Professional Services will be spearheaded by McMorland, who previously held senior positions within the Morton McVay Consulting Group, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), KMPG and Teradata. He brings deep business information consulting experience to Greenplum, specialising in data management and governance.

Higson, tasked with powering Greenplum's business development in the region, was founder and director of QualPro (UK) Ltd, a management consultancy advising the technology industry with clients including IDBS and CDE Solutions, both leaders in complex data management and data integration. Prior to founding QualPro, Higson lead marketing and business development at a range of technology organizations including five years at Sun Microsystems.

"As a long-standing partner to Greenplum, we look forward to increased engagement with Greenplum in the EMEA region," said Mikko-Pekka Bertling, VP of Services at Xtract. "Customers across the EMEA region such as TeliaSonera, Fonecta, Vodacom and PlusTV are reaping the benefits of Xtract's analytics software running on Greenplum Database, and we look forward to growing our mutual success in the region."

"We are delighted to welcome the Greenplum EMEA team, adding a wealth of experience from a variety of closely aligned technology backgrounds," said Joe Otto, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Greenplum. "EMEA is extremely important to Greenplum and so having a strong team onboard is vital to our plans as we look to widen our base in the region."
