Grantham University Elects New President

Grantham University's Board of Governors elected John LaNear, J.D., Ph.D., as the University's President and Chief Operating Officer. LaNear's experience in the education industry spans nearly 14 years, and in his most recent role, he served as provost and vice president of academic affairs of Ellis University in Chicago.

Grantham University (http://www.grantham.edu), an online university serving working adult students around the world, today announced that its Board of Governors elected John LaNear, J.D., Ph.D., as the University's President and Chief Operating Officer. LaNear's experience in the education industry spans nearly 14 years, and in his most recent role, he served as provost and vice president of academic affairs of Ellis University in Chicago.

"We're very pleased to have Dr. LaNear join our management team," said Tom Macon, chairman of Grantham University. "He will lead the University in expanding and improving the quality and scope of the academic services we provide to working adults and those serving in our nation's military."

LaNear earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Missouri State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he served as articles editor for the UMKC Law Review and was a member of the UMKC Moot Court Board and the Order of Barristers. He earned both a Master of Science degree and his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned the "Dissertation of the Year" award from the Education Law Association in 2005.

Prior to his work at Ellis University, he was vice president for the Education and Nursing programs at Kaplan University. He also served as the inaugural director of Webster University's Ozarks Regional Campus in Springfield, Mo., and was also responsible for launching the Schools of Education at Argosy University's Chicago and Chicago Northwest campuses.

"I'm very excited about my new role at Grantham," said Dr. LaNear. "On a personal note, I'm very pleased to be returning home to Missouri. Professionally, I'm honored by the opportunity to serve as Grantham's next president. The board, the management team, and the faculty and staff are all working hard toward achieving Grantham's laudable mission and goals."
