Company awards basic living needs in exchange for virtual currency.

urTurn.com, LLC, the largest reward program on Facebook, today announced the release of an auction-based marketplace where users exchange goods and services using the company's virtual currency, the "Uro."

With more than 100,000 members since the company's inception in May 2008, the company awards prizes in return for users completing advertiser offers. The ability to use a virtual currency to buy goods and services is a first for Facebook.

Members earn Uros:

  • with regular Facebook usage including accepting friends, writing on walls and uploading pictures
  • by completing advertiser offers
  • and now in return for goods and services traded on the auction

Members can redeem their Uros for:

  • items offered by other users on the auction
  • electronics, trips and other prizes
  • and basic living expenses such as food, clothing, fuel and cash

"Redeeming points for MP3 players, TVs and vacations can be fun," said Mark Sendo, urTurn's president and CEO. "But with the current state of the economy, we want to give our members a way to earn the things that they really need."

Sendo continued, "Consumer attention is very valuable, and advertisers are willing to pay for the ability to reach out to their targeted audiences. We're able to build on this principle by giving our members the chance to pay for their groceries, earn pre-paid fuel cards, cash cards and other credit for basic living needs in exchange for their attention to our advertisers."

Current urTurn members can immediately begin participating to trade their goods and services with other members and redeem their Uros for the things they need.
